Silent Hill: Shattered Memories (wii) Review
When I first started playing this game, I didn’t expect much, but I actually had a pleasant enough time with it. Right off the bat though, I will say that the story is the best part and it’s the reason that you’ll want to keep playing. I was actually kind of running through the levels so that I could get to the next cut-scene or the next segment with the psychiatrist. I won’t spoil the story for you though, because it is worth experiencing for yourself.
The gameplay itself though, has its flaws. There are basically two scenarios to every level; each level starts off normal, but at some point the level ices over and you start getting attacked by these creatures that you can’t kill. The controls work fine in the regular sequences, but once the level ices over and you have to use the “waggle” controls in a hurry, everything goes to shit. When one of the creatures grabs you, you have to push the wii-mote and nunchuck in the direction that corresponds with where the creature has grabbed your player, and THIS DOES NOT WORK half of the time, making you die because the controller isn’t following your movements properly. Just when I’m enjoying the game the most, this happens and reminds me that this game is really flawed.
You shouldn’t let the control issues deter you from trying this though. I beat the game in about 7 or 8 hours, and the great story made bearing the waggle problems much easier. If you can find a copy of this for 30 bucks or so, I’d recommend you check it out. The wii version that is, I can’t vouch for the PSP or PS2 versions, and have actually heard that the PSP version is terrible. So yeah, check out the wii version if you can.
